Biography
--------------------------------

The Honored Guests recorded their new album, Tastes Change, at The Cabin, their studio on the outskirts of their hometown, Chapel Hill, NC. Tastes Change features The Guests' love for textured simplicity along with sensible experimentation. Recorded over the course of 6 months, while touring on and off, the band has come to a balance between what seems interesting and what seems exciting. After their inception in the fall of 2003, the band first toured as the three piece of Russell Baggett (vocals/guitar), Jeremy Buenviaje (bass), and Andrew Kinghorn (drums). Patrick O'neill (keys/guitar) was added to the band in late 2005 to flesh out the more adventurous parts of the Guests' sound.

Tastes Change is a marked difference from the band's 2004 debut, Iawokeinacityasleep. The more straight forward pop of Iawoke enlisted the help of Robert Sledge (formerly of Ben Folds Five) to co-produce and make sure the engineering was sound. Iawokeinacityasleep's appeal was proven by its airplay on over 150 college radio stations nationwide, including 13 stations that charted the record. Iawoke also spent 4 consecutive months on the RIYL music charts and got the Guests the featured slot at an ASCAP Showcase sponsored by Myspace.

The band continues to tour religiously, already having supported such acts as The French Kicks (Startime International), White Whale (Merge), Headlights (Polyvinyl), Longwave (RCA), The Little Ones (Astrelwerks), Midtown (Columbia), Straylight Run (Victory), Hot Rod Circuit (Vagrant), Cub Country (Jade Tree/Future Farmer), Valient Thorr (Volcom), Say Anything (J Records), plus many others. The band saw every corner of the U.S. in 2006 and plans to continue touring throughout the rest of 2007.

Press

  • Performer Magazine, Lauren Alexis Begnaud, July 2006
"...With a sound this rich, fine-tuned, and thick, it’s hard to imagine the Honored Guests have only been around for three years."
  • Independent Weekly, Grayson Currin, April 26, 2006
"...If Baggett was wearing flannel in the vocal booth last time, he sounds like he's dressed to impress this time, suited up in sartorial British threads and singing for the stars."
  • The Daily Tarheel, Jim Walsh, April 27, 2006
"...Peaks and troughs in the album's energy take the listener on a sonic ride that doesn't leave time for distractions."
  • ThaBombShelter, Harry Smith, April 17, 2007
"...Is it any surprise then that I was hooked within about 30 seconds of listening to "Baby We're So Lost" on their page? I don't think so."
  • Eardrums, Lotte, April 21, 2007
"...All the right chords at the perfect places, the melancholic and fragile vocal, and the intensity and quality I hoped for."
